Parent information programs to prevent substance abuse: How schools can deliverSituated within a broad approach to parent participation, this session will examine effective programs and activities that inform parents about substance abuse and other addictions. These programs/activities include the use of school newsletters, email lists, web sites as well as mailing of pamphlets, the use of podcasts, social media and face to face activities such as parent workshops, kiosks and displays at school meetings, working with community-based organizations and more. Participants will have an opportunity to review and discuss a general summary on Parent Information, Involvement, Education/Training, Support and Empowerment as well as a specific summary on informational programs addressing substance abuse prevention.
